Marjorie Gertrude Artherton

Marjorie G. (Marge) Simpson Artherton, age 87, of Caney, Kansas, entered into her eternal rest on January 2, 2025 at the Journey Home in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Marge was born on January 6, 1937 to Fred and Marjorie (Carinder) Simpson, near Copan, Oklahoma. Marge graduated from Caney High School in 1955. She was a proud Bullpup, and enjoyed attending the Caney Alumni Banquet every Memorial Day weekend to meet up with friends and fellow alumni members. Marge was united in marriage to Norman Artherton on March 7, 1959. Together, they would become life long residents of the Caney area, raising their two sons, Mark and Curtis, and daughter Kathy. Marge and Norman celebrated 48 yrs. of marriage. Marge worked for Murphy Finance in Coffeyville, and First National Bank in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, but her greatest joy was being a homemaker for her family. Marge, along with her husband Norm, enjoyed square dancing, and were members of several local clubs in Northeast Oklahoma and Southeast Kansas. Along with new and old friends they would “kick up their heels and promenade” on any given Friday or Saturday night. Marge found great enjoyment making quilts, crocheting, and working in her flower beds. It wasn’t uncommon to find a puzzle on the dining room table, waiting for someone to help her piece it together. Marge loved to cook and bake for her family. Marge was a member of the Cornerstone Church of Caney, where she enjoyed greeting attendees on Sunday morning, rocking a child in the nursery, or helping the ladies prepare a meal for an event. But most of all, she loved Jesus and looked forward to worship time. Marge was predeceased by her parents, her husband Norman, her brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Sue Simpson. Those left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Mark(Tamyla) Artherton of Caney, Ks.; and Curtis(Brenda) Artherton of Niotaze, Ks.; daughter Kathy(Daryl) Cook of Coffeyville, Ks.; sister, Mary Jo Ketchum Hatton of Emerald Isle, N.C.; sister, Helen Capps of Denton, Tx.; 8 Grandchildren, 14 Great-Grandchildren, and 4 Great-Great Grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A Celebration of Marge’s life will be held at Cornerstone Church of Caney, 900 S. Ridgeway, Caney, Ks., on January 11, 2025 at 11:00 A.M.
