Hobert Lindbergh Williams

Hobert Lindbergh Williams, pipe fitter, welder and research laboratory technician was born in El Dorado, Kansas on April 7, 1930, at his Uncle Roy Williams’ home. His parents were on their way home to Towanda Kansas. They had spent the weekend at his dad’s brother Floyd’s home who lived in Teterville Kansas. Although it was only 10 miles to Towanda Hobert made it clear that he was ready to make his appearance, so they finally arrived in Towanda two weeks later. He lived in Towanda from 1930 to 1944 and then moved to El Dorado, Kansas during the Second World War. His Dad had gone to work at Skelly Refinery in April of 1944. Tires and gas were rationed so that had a lot to do with the move. Hobert graduated from junior high school in Towanda in May of 1944. Hobert had attended school in El Dorado Kansas. In June of 1947 he worked at Beechcraft in Wichita, Kansas. In October of 1947 he was laid off at Beechcraft and after working several jobs and obtained his pilot’s license in March of 1948. That same month he flew to Coffeyville Kansas and enrolled at McFarland Trade School taking a welding course. He then worked different jobs before going to work for Parkersburg Rig & Reel in Coffeyville making oil field pumps. He then stayed there until June of 1949 and moved back to El Dorado. Jobs were hard to find so he worked at what was available. On November 20, 1950, he went to work for Phillips Petroleum Company in Wichita Kansas. He was on the road all the time working in Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri and Illinois. In February 1951 while working in Shilder Oklahoma he met Ruby Lee Treat. They were married in Huntsville Arkansas on January 12, 1952. On February 28, 1952, he was drafted in the Army so for the next 2 years he was at Camp Crowder in Missouri, Fort Riley in Kansas, Fort Knox in Kentucky, Camp Drum in New York and spent a year on an Air Force Base in Keflavik Iceland. On December 9, 1953, he flew back to the States. He reported to Camp Chaffee Arkansas for discharge. He was the last service man discharged at Camp Chaffee on December 24, 1953. He went back to work with Phillips Petroleum in January 1954. On March 15, 1955, he went back to Bartlesville, Oklahoma and in December 1955 he transferred to Research and Development where he worked for 42 years until he retired on April 1, 1992. During his time at Phillips, he had co-authored several Foreign and Domestic Patents. Past member of the American Legion, Amvets Lodge, Moose Lodge and Eagles Lodge. He was a volunteer at Jane Phillips Hospital for several years. He was also a licensed pilot since 1948. Hobert is survived by his children Denise Williams of Bartlesville, Toni Williams and Shelia Fisher of Moore Oklahoma and Kristy and Gary Young of Dewey Oklahoma. Grandchildren Byron Wilcox, Carissa Wilcox, Levi Wilson and Jennifer Williams, Sabrina and Christopher Lopez. Great grandchildren Kylie, Mackenzie, Tiffany, Solomon, Midas, Levi Jr and Luke. One sister Margaret McCauley of Atlanta Kansas. Predeceased by James Alexander Morris (grandfather) on December 26, 1946, Evelyn Jean Ball Morris (grandmother) on April 10, 1948, Benjamin Thomas Williams (grandfather) in August 1950. Mary Ann Potter Williams (grandmother) in 1920, Oral Glenn Williams (father) on June 1, 1984, Lola Mae Morris Williams (mother) on August 18, 1990, Lola Juanita Holem (sister) on March 26, 2021, and lifelong friend Mary Nadine Phelps on November 25, 2021.
