Carol Jean Gray

Carol Jean Gray, 86, passed away on January 24, 2024, at the Journey Home in Bartlesville. Born on May 16, 1937, in Barnsdall, Oklahoma, to Roy and Nora Wilcox where she graduated from Barnsdall High School. She dedicated 24 years to Southwestern Bell Telephone as a Mapping Clerk. Carol made her commute to Tulsa for over 10 years when her position was relocated. She was known for having a “lead foot” and had many encounters with the OHP who knew her by name. After marrying the love of her life, Daniel "Boone" Gray, in 1959. The couple settled in Bartlesville and had two daughters. They enjoyed showing their 72 Chevy pickup at local car shows, going to Nascar races, and family vacations. After retirement, Carol and Boone would visit the Dewey Donut Shop every morning to catch up on the gossip. Carol and Boone loved watching the OKC “Thunders”. In later years, despite battling dementia, Carol's love for car rides never faded, especially to Braums for ice cream, visiting with friends or just to stop by to see their grandkids. She had quite the sweet tooth and loved to bake desserts. She cherished her role as a grandma/nana, attending sporting events and spoiling her grandchildren with sweets and her humor. Carol was always making her family laugh. She was very proud to be a member of Tuxedo Assembly of God for 50 years. Preceded in death by her husband Daniel “Boone”, sisters Joan Bally and Betty Spencer, and parents Roy and Nora Wilcox Carol is survived by her two daughters Danette (Fred) Bishop and Kimberly Gray, grandkids Bryce (Ashley) Bishop, Chance (Myranda) Bishop, Makenzie and Reese Savage, and great-grandkids Nash, Foster, and Emmitt. Her memory lives on with her brother Jack Wilcox, sister-in-law Almeta Tonips, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. Carol will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
