Ref: Ronald Alvin Wright Graveside services for Ronald Alvin Wright, 89, of Skiatook, Oklahoma were held Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Osage Garden Cemetery in Skiatook, OK, with Rev. Margaret Ann Friend officiating. Internment was under the direction of Peters-Stumpff Funeral Home. Amazing Grace was played on the bagpipes by Mr. Jesse Walker Bills and congregational hymn was Ill Fly Away . Al passed away on October 23, 2010 at the Claremore Veterans Center. He was born December 10, 1920 in Jenks, Oklahoma to Robert and Hazel (Click) Wright. Al joined the U.S. Army November 16, 1939 before graduating high school, serving in WWII and was a Pearl Harbor Survivor and a member of the Army Air Corp. After the war, he received his GED. During his time in the service he received many medals, amongst them the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was honorably discharged from the Army on July 13th 1945. Al served in the U.S. Army reserves from June 1947 till May 1950. Al was employed by American Airlines as a mechanic and a bill of work planner for 34 years. On June 1, 1979 Al married Betty Slaven in Tulsa, Oklahoma. As a long time resident of Skiatook Al was a member of the VFW Post 3077 and the American Legion Post 308. He also was a member of the Veterans of Pearl Harbor Last Mans Club, the Pearl Harbor Survivor Association, and the Distinguished Flying Cross Society. He is survived by his wife Betty of the home, a daughter Anita Wise and husband Al of Bella Vista, Arkansas; son Ron Wright Jr. of Tulsa; step-son Robert Slaven Jr. of Oklahoma City; a granddaughter Michelle Lacy, two step grandchildren: Heather Slaven, Russell Slaven and his wife, Megan, a great granddaughter Emily Hill and two step great grandchildren: Jacob Corley and Peyton (P.J.) Slaven. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Dorothy Wright. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Cal Farleys Boys Ranch in Amarillo, Texas.
