Funeral services for LaVelda Margaret Bishop, 92, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, will be held Thursday, August 9, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Peters-Stumpff Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Curtis Linton officiating. Interment in Osage Garden Cemetery in Skiatook, OK, is under the direction of Peters-Stumpff Funeral Home. Casket bearers for the service are Billy Simmons, Cody Bishop, Shon Bishop, Carl Bishop, Tyler Bishop and Austin Simmons. Musical selections for the service are "Amazing Grace" and "The Lord's Prayer" sung by Mary Kay Henderson, Director of Cherokee Indian Choir Tahlequah, Oklahoma. LaVelda passed away on August 1, 2012, at her residence in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born on January 18, 1920 in Skiatook, Oklahoma to Kirby Anderson and Lucille Marie (Bradfield) Price. She was married to Ralph Addington and had three handsome sons Carl Raymond, Gene Welch and Tommy Kay. She later was married to Otto Bishop for fifty-three years and four months. Otto had one loving son Bill Perry. Otto and LaVelda had two children Larry Joe and Margaret Sue. Together Otto and Lavelda worked diligently to raise their combined families. Today as grown adults they continue to share sweet memories of their childhood days. LaVelda loved babies and was blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. LaVelda retired at 63 with twenty-four years as Cafeteria Manager with Tulsa Public Schools. She worked in numerous Tulsa Schools including Hawthorne Elementary, Monroe Junior High, Gilcrease Junior High, Wiley Post Elementary, and Rogers High School. She received "The Best Cook Award" in 1983. She enjoyed collecting angels and received angels from all around the world from friends and family members. She loved to go to school and to learn, she loved to read, write, and to sew. She owned two sewing machines and a collection of pretty material. LaVelda had a love for God and had an immense faith that stayed with her throughout her lifetime. She studied the Bible and had a great understanding of its lessons. In her younger days she attended Turley Methodist church and sang Alto in their church choir. Later in life she and husband Otto joined the Northside Freewill Baptist church establishing many extraordinary friendships. LaVelda was and is our guardian angel. Her star may have burned out, but her light remains to guide us. "There is a point where feeling go beyond words." We have lost a real friend. Our lives and this world--is better for her being in it. We will miss LaVelda like the dry earth misses the rain. A wonderful, loving, inspiring and amazing person! LaVelda is survived by five children: Gene Welch and wife Joan of Arizona; Tommy Kay and wife Rika of Seattle, WA; Bill Perry of Collinsville; Larry Joe of Noel, MO; and Sue of Tulsa; a sister Edith Lack and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, sisters: Ella Mae, Virginia Fern, AnAva, Lola Faye and a son Carl Raymond. www.Peters-Stumpff.com
