Katrin Cynthia Watt-Sumpter

Katrin Cynthia (Watt) Sumpter passed away in Tulsa, OK, on December 13, 2021, at the age of 73. Katrin was born May 13, 1948, to Jack Richard Watt and Gudrun Karlsdottir Watt in Reykjavik, Iceland. Katrin graduated from Oklahoma State University with a BA in English. In May of 1970 she married the love of her life, Irvin Leon (Lonnie) Sumpter, and they lived in Las Cruces, NM, for 40 years, where she worked as an office manager at J.C. Penney's. She was a winner of the Oklahoma State Spelling Bee in 1961 and went to the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. Katrin was an avid reader of books and poems; played tennis for many years; enjoyed watching Jeopardy and was part of a book club. She was preceded in death by her father, Jack Richard Watt and her husband Irvin Leon (Lonnie) Sumpter. She is survived by her mother Gudrun (Sissa) Watt; her sisters Nancy Watt Brown and family and Margo Watt Slyter and family, and numerous other family members. Family services will be held at the Oglesby Cemetery on Sunday, December 19, 2021, at 1:00PM. In lieu of flowers, any memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.
