Graveside services for John Riley Oxford, 83 of Turley, Oklahoma were held Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Bennett Cemetery in Warner, OK with Jerry Stumpff officiating. Interment was under the direction of Peters-Stumpff Funeral Home. Casket bearers for the service were Jerry Spicer, Bobby Cooper, Dan Scott, Lloyd Charles Hudson, Buddy Carr, and Dave Christian. John passed away on August 14, 2011 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born February 7, 1928 in Pea Ridge, Arkansas to William Franklin and Grace (Davis) Oxford. John married Effie York on January 14, 1950 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, they had be married 61 years. He served in the National Guards 45th Infantry. John worked as a die caster for 40 years, for Ajax Die Casting in Broken Arrow before retiring. He was a long time resident of the Tulsa and Turley area. He attended the Baptist Church and was a member of the Blue Grass Club and the National Rifle Association. John was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed the outdoors. He is survived by his wife Effie of the home, two daughters: Vickie Oxford of Collinsville; Cheryl Burris and husband Bobby of Tulsa; two brothers: George Oxford of Locust Grove; Jerry Oxford of Oklahoma; a sister Virginia Sprole of Tulsa; two grandsons, four granddaughters, eight great grandsons, five great granddaughters, and one great great grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Linda Sue Swanson and 3 siblings.
