Funeral services for Effie E. Oxford, 83 of Tulsa, Oklahoma were held Friday, September 2, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Peters-Stumpff Funeral Home Chapel with Jerry Stumpff officiating. Interment in Bennett Cemetery in Warner, OK was under the direction of Peters-Stumpff Funeral Home. Casket bearers for the service were Brandon Johnson, Virgil Oxford, Amber Phillips, Iowa Hayes, Galvin Lawrence and Jason Swanson. Musical selections for the service were "The Old Rugged Cross", "On the Wings of a Snow White Dove" and "Go Rest High On That Mountain". Effie passed away on August 30, 2016 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born June 4, 1933 in Porum, Oklahoma to Thomas and Tena (Danner) York. Effie married John Oxford on January 14, 1950 in Tulsa, Oklahoma; they were longtime residents in the Turley/Tulsa area, before his death on August 14, 2011. Effie did not work outside of the home and was able to take care of her family, she raised three daughters, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was proud of her Indian heritage. Effie did not drive so she walked everywhere she went. One of the things Effie will be remembered for is her homemade peanut brittle that everyone loved. She is survived by her two daughters: Vickie Oxford of Collinsville; Cheryl Burris and husband Bobby of Tulsa; 6 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, a daughter Linda Sue Swanson and numerous siblings.
