Funeral services for Edwin Lee Harper, 85 of Skiatook, were held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at Peters-Stumpff Funeral Home Chapel in Skiatook. Officiating at the Chapel were Lester Lay and C.H. Whiteman, Bert Gage officiated at the cemetery service. Interment in Resthaven Cemetery in Sperry was under the direction of Peters-Stumpff Funeral Home. Casket Bearers for the service were Ty Harper, Bradley Hollis, Brett Bowline, Steven Casillas, John King and Alex Kavaney. Honorary Casket Bearers were Josi, Brandy, Sarah, Cheyenne, Kyle, Molly, Taylor, Cody, Grady, Noah, Rayleigh and Stormie. Musical selections for the service were How Great Thou Art , Peace In The Valley and The Lords Prayer sung by Alane King. Military Services were presented at graveside by VFW 5th Rifle Squad. Ed passed away January 3, 2009 in Tulsa. He was born February 13, 1923 in Sperry, Oklahoma to Simon John and Douglas (Crider) Harper. Ed was raised in the Sperry, Owasso and Skiatook area. He graduated from Avant High School in 1941. He served his country in the Army during WWII. He married Dorothy Riley February 16, 1952. Into that union were born 4 children: Terry, Laura, Edwin and Nancy. Dorothy preceded him in death on July 10, 1993 and he married Beverly Robinson April 16, 1998. He worked as a mechanic for American Airlines and after retiring from there he worked at Skiatook Public Schools. He enjoyed working in the hay fields bailing hay in the summer for many years. He was a member of Community of Christ Church of Skiatook, Moose Lodge # 869 and the American Legion Post # 131 of Skiatook. He is survived by his wife, Beverly of the home; 2 sons: Terry and wife Sharon Harper of Skiatook, Edwin G. Harper and fiance Melissa of Skiatook; 2 daughters: Laura J. Bowline and Nancy Hollis, both of Skiatook; 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; 4 brothers: Bill Harper of Independence, MO, Larry Harper of Skiatook. Gary Harper of Locust Grove, OK and Donnie Harper of St. Louis, MO; 1 stepbrother: Dave Mills of Independence, MO; 1 sister: Linda Bauhaus of Independence, MO; numerous cousins, friends and other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Dorothy, step-mother: Ida Harper, 1 brother and 4 sisters.
