Dovie Fern (Lininger) Phelps, 94, born in Platte, Andrew, Missouri, July 19, 1926 to Orville Andy Lininger, a truck driver for W.P.A and Georgetta Ola (Dudley) Lininger, a homemaker, went to be with our Heavenly Father, October 6, 2020. Dovie was stricken with rheumatic fever at age 9 which lasted several months and took a few years for her to rebuild her strength. During her recovery, she became an avid reader and a member of her school’s Literary Society. Her favorite book being “Leaves of Grass”, authored by Walt Whitman. She received her education and graduated from North Andrew High School, Rosendale, Missouri, 1944. Right out of High School, Dovie worked at Robidoux Hotel, St. Joseph, Missouri, where she met and made friends with stars such as Clark Gable, Gene Kelly and Ginger Rogers. A couple of months after graduation, Dovie met Kenneth Reed Phelps of Rockport, Mo and they were married, August 31, 1944, Troy, Kansas, eight children were received of this marriage. 1959-1962, Dovie worked for Dr. Maxwell, who trained her to be a nurse, Rea, Missouri. Dovie worked for Phillips Petroleum Company from April 11, 1962-August 1, 1985. During her tenor at Phillips, the family relocated to Bartlesville, Ok in the summer of 1968. After she retired, she moved to Chula Vista, California and managed a retirement complex while also working as a real estate agent. She was an avid shore walker with a deep love of the ocean. She cherished watching the sailboats and visiting historic lighthouses and landmarks. Retirement also gave her time to work on her creative endeavors. Dovie sewed, decorated cakes, danced and practiced acrylic painting. She remained a social butterfly throughout her life. Dovie moved back to Bartlesville, Ok, August 1995. Dovie is remembered first and foremost as a hardworking, devoted mother and grandmother with strong, loving, maternal bonds. She is also remembered for her strength, endurance and independence. Dovie will be interred next to Kenneth Reed Phelps, Memorial Park Cemetery, Bartlesville, Ok. Dovie is preceded in death by her mother and father, sisters, Lola, Orvalene, Doris, Helen and Ola May Lininger, brothers, Clifford and Allen Lininger, sons, John and Michael Phelps, daughter, Helen “Michelle” Phelps, great-granddaughter, Angel Jeffers, great-grandson David Schmittle, son-in-law Gary Morris, daughter-in-law, Margaret (Aquino) Phelps. Survivors, sister, Sherald (Bob) Smith, brother Bob Lininger, daughter, Sherald Morris, sons, Keith Phelps, Clifford Phelps, Kenneth (Diana) Phelps,Jeff (Dianna) Phelps, Granddaughters, Theresa (Danny) Knapp, Victoria (Barry) Leeson, Misty Phelps, Angela (Bobby) Jeffers, Sabrina (Tyler) McCloud, Nicole (Kevin) Marshall and Alisa Phelps. Grandsons, Gary (Melanie) Morris, Christopher (Kristi) Phelps and Robert (Amy) Phelps. Pallbearers, grandsons, Gary Morris, Chris Phelps, Robert Phelps, great grandsons, Branden Phelps, Garrett Jeffers, Devin Jeffers, Aaron Jeffers and Ashton Jeffers.
