Funeral services for Bill J. Van Dusen, 82, of Barnsdall, Oklahoma will be held Friday, April 4, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Stumpff Funeral Home Chapel in Barnsdall, OK, with Pastor Dake Schreffler officiating. Interment in Ethel Reese Cemetery in Barnsdall is under the direction of Stumpff Funeral Home. Casket bearers for the service are David Parks, Joe Bob Kelley, Carl Kelley,Johnny Kelley, Cleve Javine and Justin Javine. Bill passed away on March 31, 2014 at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa. He was born March 26, 1932 in Hominy, Oklahoma to Algie Earl and Verlie (Sheridan) Van Dusen. Bill worked as a meat cutter for more than twenty years for Safeway Grocers. After retiring from Safeway he had a 7-11 franchise in Tulsa. He then moved to Barnsdall where he owned and managed rental properties for many years. He remodeled several of his houses, improving the neighborhoods where they were located. Many people there knew him as their landlord. Folks in town will remember seeing him tooling around in his little silver sports car, "Spidey". He and Betty enjoyed traveling. He had fond memories of going to Colorado in the fall to see the aspen trees change color, and always looked forward to his trips to the casinos in several states. He loved to tell the story of winning $1,400.00 on a penny machine. Bill also enjoyed spending time fishing. Cheyann was his pride and joy. He enjoyed going to her ball games and hearing stories she told about her horseback riding. Bill was proud to be known as her "Poppy. He is survived by his partner Betty Parks, three brothers: Kenneth, Earl and Ray, his sister Hazel Scott and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Fern and a brother Virgil. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Heart Association or Donors Choice.
