Wanda Bohnsack

Wanda Bohnsack On September 16th, 1922, Irvin and Melva McClure brought a daughter into this world named Wanda. They lived on a hill Northeast of Copan, Oklahoma. Irvin worked on building dikes around oil tanks with horses and slips. He helped his father build the First Methodist Church in Copan. Wanda and her brothers (Ruhl and Clifford) and sisters (Beulah and Betty) could walk a wooded path to a one-room white school house that stands to this day. Wanda never saw anything great about the depression and her family moved from the city life of Copan to an oil camp named Wolco in the wilds of Osage County. Even the ghosts have now moved from Wolco. She did meet her husband Milton Bohnsack in the camp and they were married when she was nineteen. 1941 was a bad year to plan to "settle down". Milt entered the Army Air Force and they moved to Orlando, Florida where he served on B-17's. Note: Orlando was never attacked while he was on duty ! After the War, Wanda and Milt moved to Bartlesville and lived in a downtown apartment (now deemed a "loft") above the J & L Oilfield store on Second Street. They soon had a daughter named Sue and seven years later another daughter named Jane. They moved to the suburbs on Creek Street to accommodate their growing family. Their son James was born seven years later and they moved way out to the end of the Street Car line on Ninth Street near Central (before Earl Sears) . Wanda spent some time outside of the home helping Milt with his independent oil leases and traveling, however, she was most proud to be a stay-at-home-mom. She made sure that her children did their homework, had food, shelter, clothing, and had a safe place to live. She did an outstanding job ! Wanda also served as a care-giver for numerous neighbors, friends, and relatives on both sides of the family. She truly believed in Service Above Self and had a goal each day to "do a good deed" and to help someone. Wanda volunteered with Meals-on-Wheels and teamed up to drive with Grace Farmer well into her eighties. On August 28th, 2013, Wanda was called home to be with the lord shortly before her 91st Birthday. She was preceded in death by Milt in 1980, her grandson Jeff Nickels in 2008, and all of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter Sue Nickels, daughter Jane Bousum, her husband Chris (Broken Arrow) and their two boys Scott (Washington, D. C.) and Grant (Boulder, Colorado) and her son Jim Bohnsack and his wife Denise (Bartlesville) and their boys Bryan and Barry of Orlando, Florida. PDF Printable Version
