Walter E. Stewart The Lord and heard and answered his prayers and took Walter E. Stewart home to be with his Savior on May 14, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer. Walter was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1925 to Walter Earle and Freddie Lidia (Fulkerson) Stewart in Chickasha, OK. Young Walter was involved early in work and even in his own little business. He was given a pony and a cart that he used to sell products and advertising for a local hamburger joint and grocer. He played the violin and during his years as a Boy Scout, he became an accomplished bugler. Walt graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy at 16 and attended OU for 1 semester. WWII broke out and he returned home to work until his could enlist in the Army Air Corps. After returning from service, he met the love of his life, CharlAnn Haraughty and were married in Wichita Falls, TX on April 26, 1948. He worked for OG&E as a lineman until he was recalled to the Air Force on September 3, 1950, and made it a career for 26 years as a flight engineer. After his military service, he worked for Honeywell and GE, and later Control Data Corp. He was a 32nd degree Mason with a Lifetime masonic Membership. After the death of his wife, he became actively involved at Southwest Baptist Church and especially his Sunday School class. Special appreciation to his church family at Southwest Baptist, Meadowlake Assisted Living, Bartlesville Health and Rehab Center, Physicians Choice Hospice, and Rivercross Hospice. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother-in-laws Arvil Morris, Jake Sitton, Royce Riggs, and a sister-in-law Georgia Sitton. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Howard Honaker of Waynesboro, VA,a sister-in-law, Willie Fay Riggs of Bartlesville, 9 nieces and nephews, and numerous great nieces and nephews. “Uncle Walt”, you will be missed. Funeral services will be held at 10 A.M. Saturday, May 18, 2013 at the Southwest Baptist Church, located at 1300 S.W. 54th Street in Oklahoma City with the Senior Adult Minister Sam Binswanger officiating. Interment will follow at the Chapel Hill Cemetery at 8701 N.W. Expressway in Oklahoma City where full military honors will be accorded by the Honor Guard from Tinker Air Force Base. Funeral services and interment are under the direction of the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory in Bartlesville. A memorial fund has been established and those who wish may send their contributions to the Southwest Baptist Church, 1300 S.W. 54th Street, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73119 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
