Michael Stephen Loyd

The family of Michael Stephen Loyd is deeply saddened to announce his passing on July 22, 2026, at the age of 68, in his home in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Michael, known to many as Mike, walked through life as a stoic man with a teaching heart, and was always ready to lend a helping hand without a second thought. Born on July 21, 1958, in St. Louis, Missouri, to William (Bill) and Delphi (Maxwell) Loyd, Mike graduated with the class of 1978 from Parkway West High School in Ballwin, Missouri. In 1980, he graduated with a degree in Automotive Mechanics from Oklahoma State University School of Technical Training in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. After graduation Mike moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma and built his life there for 45 years. Mike was a self taught lighting and sound technician. He started his own business, Home Management Systems, installing various pieces of equipment in homes for individuals looking to enhance their sound and lighting needs. He spent many years working at The Canteen, The Community Center, running the sound and lighting at the SunFest main stage, and working shows at the Cherokee Casino in Ramona, Oklahoma. He always took great pride in putting on a great show and loved working with various bands and people over the years. Mike was passionate about sports, especially baseball, and carpentry. Most evenings you could find Mike watching a baseball game or whatever sport was in season. He loved to watch the Olympics, both summer and winter, and was an avid baseball fan. Having played baseball himself when he was younger, he watched every game he could get on his television purely for the players and the love of the game. He also spent many years teaching and coaching his daughter, and many other players, in softball. He truly loved being on the field, and sports were a passion he loved to share with others. Mike also took great pride in his carpentry skills. Over the years, he built a lake house on Grand Lake from the ground up with family, and remodeled two homes in Bartlesville. He crafted a custom miniature lighthouse for his mother, as well as a number of pieces of furniture and other items, including multiple bed frames for his children and himself, a rocking horse and stool for his grandson, and a bookshelf and king-size platform bed frame for his daughter. Every piece he made took many hours to complete, and he put an enormous amount of love into every one. Those most important to him called him Dad, PaPa, Brother, Uncle, and Son. He was always available to share his knowledge, offer advice and teach anything he knew to anyone who wanted to learn. He was also known as the person that would drop everything to help someone in need; all it took was a phone call to Mike, and you knew you had the help that you needed. His love and dedication to family will leave a lasting impression on those who knew him. Mike is survived by his children, Jamie Taylor, Christopher Loyd and his wife Cassa, and Amanda Smith and her husband Derek; his grandchildren, Austin Lawrence, Tanner Richard, Cody Loyd, Julian Smith, Lincoln Smith, and Annalee Smith; five great-grandchildren; his mother, Delphi Lee; siblings Vicki Mosier and her husband Roger, and Rick Loyd and his wife Kathy; four nieces and nephews; and three great-nieces and great-nephews. Mike was preceded in death by his father, William T. Loyd.
