Marie Ann Cubbage

Marie Ann Sgariglio Cubbage, passed peacefully into heaven on July 11th, 2026. Marie was born on December 2nd, 1943, in Camden, New Jersey, to the late Vincent “Jim” and Marie Sgariglio. She lived a life defined by kindness, compassion, generosity and an unmistakable energetic spark. Growing up, she embraced athletics early—field hockey and softball were her passions, and it was on those fields that she earned the nickname “Scrigs,” a name that stayed with her for years. In 1965, at just 22, Marie married the love of her life, Dennis Cubbage. Together they began an adventure that took them first to Colorado Springs for Dennis’s Air Force career, and then two years later to Bartlesville, Oklahoma—the place they would proudly call home for decades to come. Marie devoted her early years in Bartlesville to raising their two children, pouring her heart into creating a warm and inviting home. A softball-baseball-soccer mom for sure. Once they were older, she began a professional chapter that reflected her strong work ethic and her gift for connecting with people. She worked at the Rural Water District in Ocheleta before finding her calling as a Bailiff at the Washington County District Court. Her time at the courthouse brought her deep fulfillment and a circle of friendships that lasted a lifetime. Marie lived fully and fiercely. She was always an athlete at heart—sailing on a Regatta crew after high school, playing tennis with the Bartlesville Tennis Association, and eventually discovering the sport that would become her favorite: golf. A longtime member of both Sunset and Adams Women’s Golf Associations, Marie found joy, competition, and community on the golf course. Her home was filled with trophies and awards, each one a testament to her skill and the sheer delight she found in the game. Beyond her athleticism and professional life, Marie was deeply considerate, compassionate, and generous. She gave her time freely to her community—volunteering as the Coordinator for the Candy Stripers, serving as a Jayceette, singing in the St. John’s church choir, participating on numerous Bartlesville Service League committees, and helping at Concern. Her kindness was steady and sincere, and she touched countless lives through her willingness to show up, help, and care. Marie loved her family with her whole heart and was never happier than when she had them gathered around her. She was an incredible cook, especially with Italian dishes. Often an over-the-top party planner, known for hosting celebrations where she might serve three different entrées just so everyone had a choice. Her home was a place of warmth and laughter—always filled with the people she cherished most. Marie is survived by her husband, Dennis; her sister, Joy Johnson of Tulsa; her daughter, Dianne Cubbage (Chris) of Phoenix, Arizona; her son, Tony Cubbage (Torie) of Austin, Texas; and her beloved grandson, Knox Cubbage, of Austin, Texas. She is also survived by five nephews—Warren Field, Todd Cubbage(Valerie), Jason Cubbage (Connie), Andrew Cubbage, and Derek Cubbage—and two nieces, Jamie Powell and Emily Moore (J). Her extended family includes great-nephews Cameron Powell (Katie), Kyle Powell, Finn Field, Harrison Field, Adam Cubbage, Caden Cubbage, Jackson Cubbage, and Ryder Moore, as well as great-nieces Kaylinn Cassell, Amelia Moore, and Nora Moore. Marie’s legacy is one of love, loyalty, generosity, humor and a good ol’ fashioned Italian sassy energy. Those who knew her will remember her as a friend, a mother, a wife, a competitor, and a woman whose energy and heart filled every room—and every fairway—she entered. Her spirit will continue to shine in the memories of all who loved her. Heartfelt thanks to The Journey Home and all the volunteers for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to The Journey Home, Concern or to their favorite charity. A Rosary will be held on Thursday, July 30th, from 5-7pm at the Stumpff Funeral Home in Bartlesville. The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 31st at 11am at the St. Johns’s Catholic Church in Bartlesville. Immediately following the Mass will be a Celebration of Life at the Father Lynch Hall. Services will be under the direction of the Stumpff Funeral Home.
