James Still Sr.

James Donald (Don) Still Sr. age 91 of Delaware, OK. Passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday May 14th 2023. Don was born April 5th 1932 in Wagoner County, OK. to James Franklin Still and Genevieve Carl Still. At some point when Don was a young boy, the Stills moved to California where Don attended Paso Robles High school, graduating as a 49'er. Don joined the Navy in 1950. During that time he met and married Dolly Romero, and they had two children together. That marriage Lasting from 1954 -1959. Later Don met Jessie Ortiz, they were married from 1962-1983. Together they had three children. Don served in the Navy in the Submarine fleet Serving on the USS Kamehameha during Korea and Vietnam eras. Being discharged with honor as a Chief Petty officer in 1970. After the Navy, Don started his second career as a Postal worker from 1970 - 1990. Don also returned to school, getting degrees in business and real estate. Don was a kind and generous person. He donated to many charities. He was a good provider for his family. He loved country and western music. He loved Oklahoma sports teams, especially the Cowboys. He enjoyed watching old western movies and working on his family genealogy. He was a citizen of the Cherokee Nation. He was also a contributing member of the American Legion and VFW. Don was preceded in death by his Mother and Father, his siblings Roy Duffel, Bill Duffel, Maxine Cosentino, Willie Still, and Frank Still, as well as many cousins, uncles, aunts, nephews and nieces. He is survived by his children, Bobby (Lisa) Still, Billy Still, James (Kay) Still Jr., Paul Still, Sharron (Dan) Freund, His grandchildren, Teresa (Scott) Sangduan, Kelly Still, Jessika Sparks, Raymond Still, Jackie Freund, James Still III. Great grandchild Alaina Sangduan. Also cousins and other relatives. Memorial services will be held Monday, May 22, 2023 at the Stumpff funeral home in Nowata, Oklahoma at 2:00 pm. Viewing will be held from 9:00 am-2:00 pm prior to the service. Graveside services will be held at the Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Oklahoma at 11:00 am., Thursday May 25,2023.
