Douglas Wayne Doughty

Douglas Wayne Doughty passed away peacefully at home on August 12, 2026, surrounded by family, after a battle with Glioblastoma. Some people pass through this world; others leave an imprint on every life they touch. Doug was one of those people. There was nothing ordinary or superficial about him. He loved deeply, laughed loudly, served honorably, and remained fiercely loyal to the people he cared about. Doug was born on October 8, 1959, in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, to Joseph Paul Doughty and Charlotte “Carnagey” Doughty. Forged by the red dirt and wide-open spaces of Osage County, his heart eventually led him to the sea. After his family settled in Seaside, Oregon, he developed a love of the ocean and set his sights on becoming a Navy SEAL. Doug joined the United States Navy in 1978 and graduated from Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/s) Class 104. He served with distinction in Underwater Demolition Team 12, SEAL Delivery Vehicle Team One, the Navy Parachute Team known as the Leap Frogs, and Naval Special Warfare Unit 8, where he was a plank owner. He concluded his military career in 2001 while serving with SEAL Delivery Vehicle Team One in Pearl Harbor. He was a true Frogman. The bonds he formed through BUD/s lasted a lifetime. The men who trained, served, laughed, and stood beside him remained among his closest friends. One of those friendships was with Dwight Settle, his teammate through BUD/s and one of his dearest friends. Through Dwight, Doug was introduced to the love of his life, Dia. What began as a friendship between two teammates became a family bond that would span more than four decades. On July 4, 1997, Doug married Dia at the Hotel del Coronado, beginning a love story built on faith, family, laughter, and devotion. Together, they created a home where everyone felt welcomed, protected, and loved. His family was his greatest accomplishment. He is survived by his beloved wife, Dia; his cherished children, Harry Edward Blair IV, MacKenzie Claire Doughty, and Madison Marie Coppola (Ciro); and his treasured grandchildren, Cruz, Knox, and Vada Coppola. He is also survived by his parents, Charlotte and Joe Doughty; his sisters, Dawn Shambles and Jodi Culver (Clint); his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Cindy Cline (Jess), Dwight Settle (Jennifer), Leslie Null, and Maggie Choice; his nieces and nephews, Ashley, Carey (Bob), Chase (Sarah), Daltyn, Dylan, Hali, Jessica (Joe), Katelyn (Cody),Laurel (Skyler), Matt, Megan (Greg), Morgan, Patrick, Tim, and Tyler (Camryn); and his godchildren, Ashley Duque, Brooke Norman, and Zack Mingo. He was preceded in death by his niece, Brook Culver, and his grandson, Rhys Taylor Coppola. If family was the center of Doug’s life, laughter was the soundtrack. His wit was legendary, his timing was impeccable, and his practical jokes became stories that will be retold for generations. He was a devoted husband, a proud father and grandfather, a loyal friend, and a Navy SEAL who served his country with honor. Yet those who loved him most will remember something greater: the way he made people feel safe, welcomed, and deeply loved. The stories will continue to be told. The laughter will continue to be shared. And the love he gave so freely will live on through his family, his friends, and everyone fortunate enough to have known him. Rosary will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, August 20th, 2026. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026, at St. John Catholic Church, 715 S. Johnstone Avenue in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. In accordance with Doug’s wishes, cremation will take place at a later date.
