Artie Evelyn Clarke

Artie Evelyn Clarke March 17, 1930 – February 13, 2019 Evelyn was born in Epps, Louisiana and raised in Forest, Louisiana during her formative years. She was very close to her mother and father, who the grandkids called Mamaw and Papaw. Her family moved to Sweeny, Texas in her Junior year of high school. While she always missed Louisiana, she made many beloved friends. Evelyn met her husband, Richard H. “Dick” Clarke in Sweeny and they were married on July 5, 1947. Evelyn excelled in everything that interested her. She was a great high school basketball player for the Sweeny Bulldogs. She was an excellent crafter, making beautiful quilts, and enjoying hobbies including cross stitch, embroidery, and painting. She loved cooking amazing meals for her family and friends, who couldn’t wait for the holidays to taste her delicious pies. This was in keeping with her later life where she enjoyed sharing her recipes with her kids. In their early married years, she and Dick lived in Bay City, Texas, before settling in Kingsville, Texas. They raised quarter horses and cattle. She especially loved attending the horse races, with Ruidoso, New Mexico being her favorite location. She was a devoted wife of 48 years and a loving mother, having raised four children, two boys and two girls. She lived for her family and was always a champion for her kids and the younger generations of her family. Evelyn enjoyed teaching them about both sides of their family heritage. After Dick’s passing, she moved to Corpus Christi to be near family. She enjoyed having her own place and independence. Later in life Evelyn moved to Bartlesville, OK to live with her daughter Julie and her family, where she lived until her passing. She loved nothing better than to hear from or have a visit from her family and friends after moving to Oklahoma. Evelyn was predeceased in death by her husband Richard H. Clarke, her parents Guy and Sallie Ragus, brother, Guy Ragus, Jr., sister June Graham and grandson Cody Clarke. Evelyn will be sorely missed by her surviving family: Her children and their spouses Richard and Susan Clarke (Fulshear, TX), Perry and Marsha Clarke (Trinity, TX) Kathy Karnei (Corpus Christi, TX) and Julie and Jeff Turcotte (Bartlesville, OK); eight grandchildren Carrie Krenek, Tana (Ruben) Pena, Heston Clarke, Cash Clarke, Amber Perrigue, Erin (Frank) Moya, Kady Turcotte-McNally (Chris) and Megan Turcotte; nine great grandchildren Bailey Krenek, Taylor (Matt) Fox, Madison Perrigue, Makenna Perrigue, Luke Pena, Sophia Pena, Bradley Moya, Rowan Moya and Oliver Bell; one great-great grandchild Cooper Fox. Also surviving are her loving sister, Doris Watkins and brother-in-law, Bernard Graham, both from Bay City, Texas. Funeral services for family and friends will be held at Chamberlain Cemetery 735 W. Caesar Ave. in Kingsville Texas on Saturday March 9, 2019 at 1:00 p.m.
