Life Legacy


Mr. Lawrence Leon Smith, 68, of rural Copan, died Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday at the Stumpff Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roger Sheppard officiating. Interment will follow at 3:00 pm in the Graham Memorial Cemetery in Pryor, Oklahoma.
Family visitation will be held Tuesday Evening from 6-8 pm at the Stumpff Funeral Home.
A memorial has been established in honor of Lawrence Smith to Hope Hospice located at 8291 N. Owasso Expressway, Owasso, OK. 74055.
The son of Lawrence and Audie (Couch) Smith, Lawrence was born November 2, 1943 in Pryor, Oklahoma. He graduated from Pryor public schools and attended NSU where he graduated with a double major in Math and Chemistry. Lawrence also graduated with perfect attendance. On August 28, 1968 Lawrence and Judy Madden were united in marriage at Pryor, Oklahoma. Lawrence worked for Phillips Petroleum for over 25 years and began operating a pawn shop in Ponca City in 1992. It became the 2nd largest pawn shop in the state. He retired in 2011. When not working, Lawrence enjoyed collecting Ford Mustangs and spending time with his family. He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Lawrence was a generous man and will never be forgotten.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Judy of the home; one daughter, Shelley Dodson of Pryor, OK; three grandchildren, Joseph Smith, KayLee Mann, Tori Dodson; sisters-in-law, Joyce Ragsdale and her husband, Bobby, of Sand Springs, Donna Gipson and her husband, Eddie, of Pryor, Linda McNatt of Pryor, Pat Welch and her husband, Tony, of Tulsa; one nephew, Brian Allen Smith and his wife, Connie; a host of nieces, nephews and many, many friends.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Alvin Leroy Smith.
